About

Mayra Piedrahita is a Bellevue resident, former service member, and mother who believes in showing up, doing the work, and getting real results for families. As a bilingual leader, she is committed to making sure every resident feels heard and informed.

In her day-to-day life, Mayra works full-time in community-based housing and environmental services, helping families improve the safety and health of their homes. She’s the person who walks into a situation, pays attention to the details, and helps people figure out what needs to happen next.

Through this work, she’s seen how the Learning Community’s decisions can make a real difference, supporting schools, closing opportunity gaps, and making sure resources reach the students and families who need them most.

Mayra brings a unique mix of real-world experience and education to her leadership. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Metaphysics, a certification in Political Science, and a radon measurement license. It’s an uncommon combination, but it fits her: practical, people-focused, and always solution-oriented.

She’s supported by a strong team of Latino professionals who volunteer their time and expertise in finance, communications, strategy, and community outreach. Together, they’re focused on trust, transparency, and making sure Subdistrict 5 gets leadership that listens, follows through, and respects the people they serve.

Early Intervention & Prevention

I believe the most powerful change happens before a crisis begins. When we invest early, in children, families, and educators, we reduce long-term harm and create stronger outcomes for everyone. Early intervention means identifying needs sooner, supporting families before they are overwhelmed, and making sure children have what they need to succeed from the very start. I invite community members, educators, and organizations to work with me to build systems that are proactive, not reactive, because prevention is not only more humane, it’s more effective.

Healthy Homes & Learning Environments

Children cannot thrive in classrooms if their homes or learning environments are unsafe or unhealthy. Housing conditions, environmental health, and school readiness are deeply connected, yet too often addressed in silos. I am committed to advocating for learning environments, both at home and in schools, that are safe, stable, and supportive of a child’s ability to focus, grow, and learn. This work requires collaboration across sectors, and I invite partners who believe that healthy environments are foundational to educational success.

Family Stability & Access to Resources

Strong families build strong communities. Too many families face barriers simply because resources are hard to access, systems are confusing, or support arrives too late. I want to help create pathways that are clearer, more compassionate, and more responsive to real-life needs. Family stability isn’t about perfection, it’s about access, dignity, and support. I welcome families, advocates, and service providers to work alongside me to ensure no one is navigating these systems alone.

Accountability & Coordination Across Systems

Our systems should work together, not against the people they’re meant to serve. Accountability means ensuring programs deliver real results, resources are used responsibly, and decisions are made with transparency. Coordination means breaking down barriers between agencies so families don’t fall through the cracks. I am committed to asking hard questions, listening to community feedback, and helping align efforts across education, health, and family services. This is collective work, and lasting change happens when we hold ourselves accountable to one another.
